Repeaters
The Ixxat repeaters can be used to establish a physical coupling of two or more segments of a CAN network system. They allow to implement tree or star topologies as well as long drop lines. In addition, network segments can be electrically decoupled using a galvanically isolated repeater. Defect network segments will be switched off and, after solving the problem, switched on automatically.
Bridges
With Ixxat's CAN bridges networks of different bit-rates or protocols can be connected with each other. They are based on the store-(modify)-forward principle, where CAN messages are received by one sub-network and then transmitted to the other sub-network.
Unlike the CAN repeater, the CANbridge enables the enlargement of the maximum network size, so that the sub-systems are fully self-sufficiently with regard to bus arbitration. CAN sub-networks connected by bridges are independent of each other in terms of their real-time behavior and are to be regarded as independent networks.
Translation and filter rules can also be used, by means of which a protocol adaptation can be carried out between the sub-networks. A bridge can also provide simple gateway functions.
Gateways
Ixxat's CAN gateways enable access to CAN networks via other communication systems. The protocols of the connected bus systems are mapped to the other communication model in each case.
Special gateways are:
- CANlink II - for the connection of devices with RS-232 interface to CAN or CANopen systems
- CAN@net II - Ethernet-to-CAN gateway for the connection of CAN systems via Ethernet or the access to CAN systems via standard TCP/IP socket and simple ASCII protocol
- LIN2CAN - universal device for the analysis of LIN networks via the CAN bus and for the emulation of LIN slave or master modules
