CANopen profile information
Corresponding to the CANopen communication specifications also device and application profiles have been published.
- Generic device profiles describe just the interface of a single device.
- Application profiles describe the interfaces of all the devices which are part of an application.
Example:
An I/O-module is specified by a device profile. It defines the functionality, the PDO and SDO parameters and other device specific properties.
The functionality of a complete garbage truck is defined by an application profile. All devices required for a garbage system have to be specified. These are e. g. the lifter, the weighing unit, the change container unit, the compaction unit… As additionally the communication between the devices can be specified, the plug-and-play ability is improved.
