First CAN XL hardware
The Stellar P6 micro-controller by STMicroelectronics featuring CAN XL connectivity are intended for 2024 EV-car platforms. Infineon’s Aurix TC4x family will also support CAN XL in 2024.
Long network distances
CiA members like to evaluate the network length limits for CAN FD and CAN XL. A Special Interest Group (SIG) accompanies the related research project. Interested parties can get more information from CiA office.
Free-of-charge iCC video recordings
CiA has recorded the presentations (papers as well as the open webinars) given at the 17th international CAN Conference (iCC). They are now available free of charge on CiA’s Youtube channel. There are also videos of previous iCC presentations on Youtube.

CiA profiles as Draft Specifications
The CiA 450, CiA 452, CiA 457 documents, and the CiA 459 series are now available also for non-members. They are part of the CiA 4XX one-year subsription comprising all CiA profiles in Draft Specification (DS) status.
The problems are solved, not by giving new information, but by arranging what we have known since long.
CiA community
The CAN community is huge. More than two billion of CAN nodes are installed annually. And this figure is still growing. The number of CAN fellows organized in the nonprofit CiA users’ and manufacturers’ group is much smaller. Due to new CAN data link layer (CAN XL and CAN FD Light) and new CAN physical medium attachment developments (CAN SIC and CAN SIC XL), the membership is growing, too. There are also new members interested in CiA profile developed for new markets such as battery management, fire-fighting equipment, etc.
“We take the already existing ideas in communication technology as well as in human communication, arrange them newly, and new specifications and recommendations are born,” said Holger Zeltwanger, CiA Managing Director.
