CiA® plugfests
CAN in Automation organizes plugfests as a service for CiA members. The purpose of these events is to check and improve the interoperability of CANopen devices. It helps device designers to optimize their device software. In addition, system designers may get a better understanding of the problems occurring during device integration. They also learn about the latest CANopen implementations, products and services in this specific application field. The plugfest participants connect directly with key experts and technology specialists from the CiA CANopen community, who have long-term experience in certain CANopen application fields, and thus can test and improve their implementations. The participants discuss interoperability issues with other CiA community members and gain information from interoperability tests to improve application software and equipment firmware.
Additionally, they share their experiences with other CiA CANopen community members with regard to the functionality and interoperability of CANopen application end devices and control systems. Participants also reinforce the collaboration on interoperability and build even stronger communication bonds between members of the CANopen community. Last but not least, the results of plugfests are a valuable input for improving the related CANopen profile.

CANopen lift plugfest
CiA organizes CANopen lift plugfests twice a year at CiA office focusing on interoperability testing of the CANopen application profile for lift devices (CiA 417).
CANopen CiA 4xx plugfest
CiA organizes CANopen 4xx profile plugfests at irregular intervals focusing on the interoperability testing of devices implemented according to generic CANopen profiles like CiA 401, CiA 402, CiA 406, CiA 410.
CAN FD plugfest
CiA also offers CAN FD plugfests in order to prove the interoperability of nodes implementing the improved CAN protocol called CAN FD.
CiA plugfests are for members only, participation is free of charge.

Join the community!
Established in March 1992, the CiA nonprofit association fosters the image of CAN technology. CiA members jointly develop specifications for different CAN application fields. The CAN community also finances CiA’s active participation in international standardization and organizes events in order to exchange knowledge and experiences. These opportunities for networking belong to the most important benefits of CiA membership
CiA also offers other services. These include seminars and conferences, publications, CANopen testing, and last but not least the promotion of CAN technology.
